Our Centres are specialised facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases and for haemodialysis (renal replacement therapy).

Our facilities offer assistance to patients whose pathologies are directly or indirectly related to the kidneys.

Over the last thirty years, technological advances and scientific research have significantly improved the quality of dialysis, a very complex treatment, thus improving not only the medical conditions of the patients but especially their quality of life.

Our services

Prevention of kidney disease

Kidney disease often goes unnoticed in the early stages of development, presenting no signs and/or symptoms. Nevertheless, this disease causes urinary changes that can be identified through a urine test, which is a simple and non-invasive screening test. Preventing kidney disease also requires a healthy lifestyle, in particular monitoring body weight through a proper diet (low-salt and normal calorie content).

High blood pressure is a significant risk factor in the development of chronic kidney disease; it is the second leading cause of terminal kidney failure in American and European dialysis registers after diabetes mellitus.

The differential diagnosis of primary or secondary arterial hypertension and the subsequent implementation of the correct therapy is therefore essential for the prevention of kidney disease and the slowing down of its course. An optimal blood pressure control contributes significantly to the prevention of nephropathy or to the maintenance of a stable condition when kidney disease is present. Preventing kidney disease also requires a healthy lifestyle, in particular monitoring body weight through a proper diet (low-salt and normal calorie content).

Acute and chronic kidney failure diagnosis and follow-up

The awareness of the existence of kidney disease is poor in the country. It is clear that kidney disease is in most cases underestimated; as these pathologies mostly go unnoticed in the initial phases, patients often see the nephrologist only when in an already advanced phase of nephropathy.

For most patients, improving prognosis implies identifying and treating early stages of kidney disease. This diagnostic-therapeutic objective can be achieved through non-invasive, first-level investigations, including clinical examination, blood test, urine test and kidney ultrasound. However, if an advanced stage of chronic kidney failure is diagnosed, the patient should be prepared to undergo dialysis treatment.
Our team will guide you in this journey, carefully assessing all the available options in order to choose the one that best suits your personal and clinical needs.

Outpatient visits with specialists

At our Centres, we provide an outpatient visits service that includes nephrology visits for the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases.

We also prescribe customised diets and evaluate clinical analyses to promote prevention and improve the lifestyle of the patient. The outpatient services offered by our specialists include, in addition to the clinical evaluation of the patient, biohumoral tests on kidney function and acid-base equilibrium.

Furthermore, we evaluate the nutritional state of patients and their body composition using the bioelectrical impedance analysis test. Clinical conditions are positively influenced by a proper dietary intake, which needs to be customised and modulated over time. Outpatient services offered also include, where it is deemed necessary, cardiologic counselling. It is common knowledge that decreased kidney function is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular issues.

Custom Dialysis Therapies

Our Centres perfectly combine the quality of care and professionalism of human resources with the continuous technological innovation of the equipment.

A sophisticated and state-of-the-art water preparation system enables all dialysis therapies to be carried out online as well. The latest-generation dialysis monitors enable the nephrologist to provide dialysis therapies customised for each patient, just like tailor-made suits, according to the needs of the individual patient.

Work-up assistance with inclusion in kidney transplantation list

Kidney transplantation is the best replacement therapy for patients with severe and irreversible chronic kidney failure. Our Centres are committed to informing and guiding patients who are eligible for transplantation by interfacing with the Transplant Centres and the Nephrology and Dialysis Operational Units on the territory. For this purpose, our team includes a surgeon, who is responsible for the waiting list. The care path includes an assessment by the nephrologist and the surgeon, support in the planning and execution of thorough diagnostic examinations, an evaluation by the doctor of the Transplant Centre chosen by the patient and assistance with inclusion and permanence on the waiting list until transplantation.

Our nephrologists collaborate with the main Italian Transplant Centres in order to include the patient in a waiting list quickly. In Italy, a dialysis patient has the right to sign up with two Transplant Centres, one in their home region and one outside the region. This double enrollment increases the chances for kidney transplantation. We also offer support in the living donor transplant path, informing families and relatives about the procedure and how to check the clinical fitness of a potential donor.

24/7 medical care for patients

Our centers offer 24/7 medical care with on-call medical availability. In particular, in our headquarters in Palermo (C.E.M., Southern Haemodialysis Centre), the constant presence of nephrology specialists provides added value for the peace of mind of the patients, who receive the best care possible and a high, hotel-like comfort level.
